PS3 Sees 14,494.52% Increase In Japan
Yes, that number is right. The PS3 sold 14,494.52% more consoles than it did the prior week in Japan. Although, to be fair, a big part of that is because there was a shortage last week, as the PS3 fat sold it’s final few consoles, amounting to just 1,040 This week, however, the numbers were very impressive, thanks to the PS3 slim. The PS3 sold a whopping 150,743 consoles, enough to easily take first place on the charts.
Is this a sign of things to come for the PS3? The Wii has been struggling as of late, but can a price drop change it’s fortune? It’s very possible that the Wii’s run of being the cominant console is coming to an end. Even the Xbox 360 has been creeping up on the Wii lately. Many questions will be answered in the coming months.
Here is the full rundown of sales for the week of August 31st to September 6th in Japan:
- PS3: 151,783
- DSi: 60,419
- PSP: 22,184
- Wii: 21,557
- DS Lite: 8,309
- Xbox 360: 6,827
- PS2: 3,001

Everyone knows that PS3 sales the week before were dead in anticipation of the release of the PS3Slim. Not to mention, original PS3s were not re-ordered to make room for the PS3Slim.
14,494.52% is a big number… but that’s all it is.
Now if it can keep that up for 3 years straight… It’ll even pass the Wii.
i think youl’ find, the numbers are good,
its now the 14th sept, slim got released on the 1st, it has now been seling for 2 weeks maybe 3 as some shipped it a few days early.
and i think youl’ find, it has been doing these numbers solidly ever sinse,….. i am amazed myself, but these numbers are good.
it sold low numbers 3 weeks ago, when there was none, no fats, no slims i stock,…so yes there was a week, with low numbers, but there has now been 2 or 3 with millins of slims selling around the world.
i put it at 1 million in 4 weeks, ending sept 18th.
i would also put sony head to head with microsoft after this christmas
but , with sony pleanty to give, and microsofts games drying up after halo adst, which is a 30 quid add on pak as it is. – good sales on amazon.com tho….
peace to the world
“Head to head”? As in, total numbers sold world wide? Care to put money on that? $14,494.52 sounds like a nice wager.
lol @ChrisW… 14.5K does sound like a good wager huh? Basically what is happening nowadays is that people who shunned at the ps3 for its huge price are now finally taking the plunge because products with that kind of price tag need something now…,. a couple months ago they weren’t sure if investing in a $500 GAMING console was worth it (aka they didnt see the bluray or integrated web explorer as a reason to purchase the product) but at $300????? Shit I remember the ONLY reason I want a Wii was because of how cheap it is! $250 for a Nintendo (original, not this casual crap) gaming console sounds like such a great deal… now add 50 more an add the GREAT DEAL OF GAMES coming to the ps3 (GOW3 FTW!!!!) And basic supply and demand will run…. aka slow wii sales… GREATLY enhanced ps3 sales… and a boost for the economy!! But anyways.. I’m gonna go back to waiting for NEED FOR SPPED SHIFT… FRAKEN AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know the 360 is ahead by quite a bit, but at some point, it’ll reach its peak. I can’t see it hitting over 50 million consoles, I can see the PS3 doing over that though. But saying that, I think the PS4 and 720 will be out in a few years, so the console war will be starting again from scratch.

This is great news for the PS3!
After looking back on the PS3 price drop, I find it interesting how microsoft had their finger on the button (no pun intended) just ready for Sony to drop price so they can follow suit.
I think we all knew this would happen eventually… at least I did. The PS2 sold way too many units and was way too popular for those PS2 owners to not eventually buy a PS3. They were just waiting for the $299 price-point and now there it is. The PS3 will continue to close the gap b/w them and the other two consoles and eventually overtake at least the 360 if not both.
